Many of you may already know that I consider myself a feminist. You may have seen my Feminism board on Pinterest or you may have read the post where I opened up about some of my geek habits which mentioned feminism. Perhaps you remember my shout-out to Amelia Earhart? I even told you Feminist Fridays were coming in the first Coffee Date post; but the most detail I’ve gone into regarding this passion was in my Interests post back in June. I really want to get more serious about sharing meaningful things here on my beloved blog in 2014 (and beyond) and I want to begin to use Clear the Way as a megaphone for my voice.[Tweet “”You were wild once. Don’t let them tame you.” Isadora Duncan”]
I love this quote by Isadora Duncan, my dancing muse. (Maybe I’ll do a post later sometime about my dance style and biggest influencers.) When I was thinking about what playlist I wanted to put together for January, I decided to seek out truly inspiring and passionately hip-shake inducing music. I love a good beat, but I can’t listen to most music. This is because I’m one of those people who can’t not hear the lyrics. So many songs out there have lyrics about things I don’t care about or am not inspired by. So many songs out there have lyrics that are not feminist-friendly and are even supremely hurtful. (Don’t get me started on all these songs that paint the purpose of women’s beauty, bodies, and abilities as solely to serve men’s visual and sexual interest…) So I did it. I found some truly inspiring songs. This month’s playlist is the Feminist Playlist and I’ve been dancing to it non-stop. It’s even on my Every Day List for 2014. It’s so important to move my body and express myself; I find dancing is the most fulfilling way.
I’ll be adding to this playlist throughout the whole year, so bookmark it or follow it so you can dance along with me. I’m also including some of my favorite music videos from the playlist so you can gawk with me. Holy moly, are you as inspired as I am?
