The Write It Out series serves as an opportunity for us all to explore our creative writing in a supportive and collaborative environment. Each month I will share a prompt along with my writing inspired by it, then invite you to participate. For this month, write about a moment of refreshment.
By The Breeze
It’s hot right now.
Not the dry heat of California that rises steadily and evenly,
Like a flame growing hotter,
Like a blaze.
I don’t feel like clothes in a dryer, sealed off and warmed.
I feel like I’m hanging on a line in the air,
Feeling every inch of the moisture as it drips,
Substantial as it swelters, stifles, sweats.
Finally, a breeze picks up and ushers in some relief.
The curtains stir and a curious susurrus is triggered.
I pause, enticed,
Man, I miss this…
The drought has made my heart ache for my Earth,
For a hint of refreshment, of relief,
I may not be able to bring this home with me, as I wish,
But I will relish in the savor for now.
I am very curious to read about moments of refreshment in your life and remember, you don’t have to write a poem. You can write anything you want: a short story, a long poem, free prose, etc. If you do write something, make sure you link up. See the details below:
- write from this month’s prompt and post on your blog
- submit your post below where it says “click here to enter”
- encourage your readers to take part, too!
