The One Word Inspiration series is a guest post series on Clear the Way which asks different visiting bloggers to share whatever they are inspired to share when they hear only one word. The word changes each month and today Jess from Thrifty Traveler Tips is here to share her inspiration from the word self-love.
Self-love is something that may seem difficult to achieve in today’s world. Perfection is what most strive to achieve but aren’t some of the most beautiful things in the world things that don’t achieve these standards? If you want an example, look to the sky as the sun starts to set. The sky is bathed in brilliant colors and the clouds are illuminated in a beautiful display, but have you ever stopped to realize that no two sunsets are ever the same, yet equally as beautiful?
The first step to self-love is accepting that there is beauty in imperfection. It is with this logic that we, as individuals, need to view ourselves in a loving light. There is beauty in every part of you, even your flaws! I have struggled with self-love throughout my life, but there comes a time when you need to decide that you are good enough, and start feeling comfortable in your own skin. Loving yourself, flaws and all, is not an easy task in a world filled with these ideals of what you should and shouldn’t be, but it is a necessary one in order to find your happiness.

Self-love is looking in the mirror each morning and loving the person smiling back, pimples, scars, bad hair day, and all. It’s about putting yourself first as often as possible and doing things that make you a happy, better person. Self-love means that you take pride in who you are as a person and stay true to your beliefs, even if it means losing friends. In this quest for self-love you must dare to dream, and vow not let anyone take the excitement of this dream away from you. Say yes to life, to love, to adventure, and learn from your mistakes along the way.
Self-love is a feeling that must come from within. It’s the way you hold yourself, dress, and live your life. All of these things must be done with your well-being, your values, and your dreams in mind. When you choose to love yourself, you find you can achieve anything you set your mind to. In order to live a happy life where you are confident, respected, and true to yourself, you must first choose to do what’s best for you no matter what the world may throw at you. The ability to accept your flaws, become a better person, and realizing your worth are the beautiful rewards that come from achieving self-love.
While it may be tempting to put the blame for your unhappiness on others around you, an important step of loving yourself is the realization that you are responsible for your own actions and happiness. Until you realize that you, and only you, are in charge of your happiness, you will search high and low but still feel as if a part of you is missing. A happy life starts with a happy you. Do yourself a favor and put self-love at the top of your to-do list this week.
